Week 1 Mortal Lock
We’ve made it to the holiday weekend and what a beautiful sight it is to see a full slate of College Football. It’s especially nice after cashing the week 0 mortal lock in an absolute laugher. Beau Pribula and the Cavaliers absolutely demolished NC State and covered the number with ease for us. But there’s no time to dwell on the past as I am on to Week 1. For this week’s mortal, we will be traveling through the Appalachian Mountains to beautiful Morgantown where the West Virginia Mountaineers will take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. It was a rough first year for Rich Rodriguez in his second stint as West Virginia head coach, but a stacked transfer class has many folks bullish on the 2026 Mountaineers, including myself. That transfer class includes QB Michael Hawkins Jr. (Oklahoma) and RB Cam Cook (Jacksonville St), with the ladder being the leading rusher in all of college football last year. Rich Rod should use both these players to create a dynamic, high tempo rushing attack that will give the Chants a ton of trouble. On the other sideline, new Coastal head coach Ryan Beard has a roster that ranks 112th in returning production, making me question how much chemistry this group will have in their first game of the season. 21 is a big number here but I fully expect WVU to get up early and Rich Rod to fully lay the hammer down and give the fanbase cause for excitement . It also helps that if we see backups in this game, Scotty Fox started 5 games in 2026 and is capable of holding onto our lead and perhaps getting some insurance scores.
