Week 2 Mortal Lock

Another work week down and what a weekend of college football we have as a reward. Marquee matchups all over the place as we kick this season into another gear. Sadly, I was not victorious last week as the mountaineers had an abysmal second half and saw their 24 point lead dwindle down to only a 7 point victory. But I’ll use this week as an opportunity to bounce back in a big way and get back into positive figures. For this week’s mortal lock, lets row our boats up to Minneapolis where the Minnesota Golden Gophers will be taking on the Mississippi St Bulldogs in an under the radar, fascinating matchup. This game features 2 quarterbacks that have NFL potential in Drake Lindsey (Minnesota) and Kamario Taylor (Miss st.). And while Taylor is an electric athlete that has been very impressive since taking over the job midseason last year, I will be backing Lindsey and the Gophers. Minnesota should be able to attack the Mississippi St defense on the ground by way of star running back Darius Taylor and sustain drives, therefore keeping the fast paced bulldogs offense off the field. I also have more faith in the Gophers defense to get stops when needed, lead by senior defensive end Anthony Smith (12.5 sacks in 2025).  Look for Javon Tracy to make a major impact in special teams, as he had 2 punt return touchdowns in the opening game against Eastern Illinois to go along with his 5 receptions for 98 yards. At the end of the day, I just see a more complete roster on the Gophers sideline and more potential avenues to victory. On top of all that, they have a coach that I trust more, as PJ Fleck has shown the ability to win these tough games and will have his squad ready on Saturday. Row the Boat, Ski-U-Mah, and Go Gophers!
