Week 6 Mortal Lock
Week 6 of college football is upon us and we are blessed with another loaded slate of games. We were a bit unfortunate last week as TCU was very much in that game and arguably should have won that game. At the very least they definitely should have covered our 6.5. But in the end, I am to blame for that loss. I’ve been doing this long enough to know that BYU has voodoo magic that can help them win and cover even when their QB throws for 60 yards in the entire game. Enough about that game, as I am on the search for this week’s lock with a need to get back in the win column. And what better place than West Lafayette, Indiana. That is where the Purdue Boilermakers will take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Now let me be very clear. I am a huge PJ Fleck guy and have loved watching him rub blood on his face and chug water out of the little brown jug over the last couple weeks, but this is just a perfect spot to back the boilermakers. Fleck said after the win against Michigan last weekend that it was the greatest day of his life other than his kids being born and getting married. He might as well just have said “Please bet against me next week”. Hearing those words and seeing the celebrations in the locker room make Minnesota primed for a let down spot. And on Saturday they’ll be facing a Purdue team that is much better than their record shows, with losses coming against Notre Dame(Undefeated), UCLA(undefeated), and Wake Forrest in OT in a game they should have won against what looks to be the second best team in the ACC. Barry Odom has shown massive improvements in year 2 in West Lafayette and will look to build on last week’s road win at Illinois with another victory, this time at home under the lights. Odom and Fleck faced off last year in a game that Minnesota won by 7 in Minneapolis. But that score is not indicative of the play on the field as Purdue severely outgained Minnesota and ultimately just made a few too many mistakes to win. This year Odom’s team will look to capitalize on their opportunities and limit the mistakes to get a little revenge. Look for RB Fame Ijeboi to run wild in this game and lead the Boilers to victory. Bang that Big Ass Drum! Boiler Up!
